Happy Halloween! We've had a blast sharing spooky recipes with you over the last month. We're wrapping it up with one last creepy crawler - some spider whoopie pies! This recipe is simple enough that even the smallest hands can help to assemble them, and the results are delicious!
Today we used our GoWISE Mojave Air Fryer Dehydrator to make this recipe, but any of our air fryers or air fryer ovens will have these cooked to perfection before you can say "boo!"
- 1 15.25oz box Devil’s Food cake mix
- ¾ cup water
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 3 eggs
- 1 3.9oz box of chocolate fudge instant pudding
- 2 16 oz tubs vanilla cake icing
- Black licorice
- Black food coloring
- Edible eye candies
Combine cake mix, water, vegetable oil, eggs, and pudding mix in a large bowl. Beat on medium speed until well-blended.
Cover air oven mesh trays with tinfoil or parchment paper. Divide batter into even scoops and place racks in oven.
Bake at 350° for up to 20 minutes, depending on size of whoopie pies. Allow to cool.
Mix black food coloring into vanilla icing. Split licorice down the center if too thick and trim to desired length for legs.
Frost the flat side of one whoopie pie cake and add eight licorice “legs”. Place the flat side of a second cake on top to form a complete whoopie pie. Use a little bit of icing to adhere candy eyes to the tops of the pies. Enjoy!
